Abstract
Biopesticides are emerging as sustainable alternatives to synthetic pesticides, offering environmentally safe and target-specific pest management solutions. This study examines the development, production, regulatory framework, and adoption challenges of biopesticides in India. It reviews microbial and botanical sources, along with current production techniques such as fermentation and plant extraction, and recent advancements including improved formulations, strain enhancement, and nano-based delivery systems. The analysis identifies key constraints such as limited shelf-life, inconsistent field performance, regulatory complexities, and low farmer awareness, which hinder widespread adoption. Despite these challenges, results indicate significant potential for biopesticides in enhancing sustainable agriculture, particularly when integrated into integrated pest management (IPM) systems. The study concludes that strengthening regulatory efficiency, improving infrastructure, promoting innovation, and enhancing farmer education are essential to accelerate the adoption and commercialization of biopesticides in India.
